- All CMCSS middle schools are mandated to use a placement guide created by personnel at Central Office. Data considered includes TCAP scores, grades, and score on the district placement test. Students who lack TCAP scores, possibly due to moving from another state, are considered for advanced classes by individual consideration of standardized test scores from the previous state. If a student is placed in algebra I, they must maintain an 80% to remain in the class.
- RTI2
Response to Instruction and Intervention (RTI2) is a specialized intervention system that is driven by the analysis and evaluation of student performance data and progress. The process is a multi-tiered system that begins with high-quality instruction for all students and a universal screener which assesses skill level. Results from this screener are used to plan for targeted interventions in Tier II or Tier III services in addition to the Tier I services they will continue to receive in the general education setting. Progress monitoring will be used for students in Tier II and Tier III interventions to track the development of skill level.
School counselors should pay special attention to RTI2 data as they work on closing-the-gap activities. Professional school counselors should be involved in the RTI2 process as they implement a comprehensive school counseling program that addresses the diverse needs of students. More information about RTI2 can be found at the following website: www.tn.gov/education/instruction/tdoe-rti2/rti2-rediect/rti2-resources.html
